Identifying, evaluating and enhancing impact in postgraduate education is a controversial area that has ignited much debate in the academic community in the UK and elsewhere.Whilst many would accept the basic notion that there should be some means of determining that government funding has been wisely invested and that there should be some socio-economic benefits from the activities of HEIs, others worry about how such measures skew research and education agendas and tend to favour immediate outputs over longer term benefits that may not be so immediately identifiable. There are many aspects to this debate that are captured in this workshop for delegates to explore: the opposing arguments of the benefits of positive engagement with the impact agenda versus the concern that it distorts and even calls into question the whole purpose of academia, the current state of thinking on institutional strategies for capturing and enhancing impact and the practical challenges of evaluating impact in educational/research programmes. This workshop is an opportunity for academic staff, research administrators and post-docs to consider current thinking and future directions, to share experiences across disciplines and to debate the implications of the REF.
The cost of this workshop is £195 for UKCGE Members and £245 for non-members This includes lunch, refreshments and a delegate pack.
