PTES is a unique service provided by the Higher Education Academy to all UK Higher Education Institutions. The survey allows institutions to collect feedback from current postgraduate students in a systematic and user-friendly way. Results are anonymous, allowing comparison against sector benchmarks and previous years’ survey results whilst ensuring that they are used for internal enhancement. Further information on participation, including survey dates and costs for 2012, is provided in the attached ‘What is PTES?’ document.
Why take part in the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey?
As a national survey (80 participating institutions in 2011), PTES is a unique opportunity to benchmark your PGT provision against aggregated results for the sector and any benchmarking group(s) you opt in to
With a cost of only £400-£450, PTES offers great value for money as a way of evaluating the experiences of your entire PGT cohort
The survey period is flexible - you choose when the survey runs within a 4-month window
Each institution’s results are confidential and the focus of the survey is on enhancement rather than league tables
The UK Government’s Higher Education White Paper has asked sector bodies to develop and consider proposals for a public survey of Postgraduate Taught students (at least in England), similar to the National Student Survey; running PTES now will enable you to start to benchmark your performance with the sector and with groups of similar HEIs
The HEA provides extensive support both for the administration of the survey and to help in analysing and using the results to make positive changes
To register your interest in participating in PTES 2012 please e-mail the HEA’s Surveys Team by 5 December 2011: surveys@heacademy.ac.uk
